Part of the challenge is having the time to relay the necessary knowledge to the technician, on top of the time-consuming challenge of demonstrating the necessary physical skills. Many dental laboratories that employ more than a few people struggle with how to appropriately and adequately train and educate their employees so that their work is consistent and the product they produce meets their quality expectations. One of the Foundation’s primary goals is to develop a web-delivered educational body of knowledge for dental technicians that will meet the needs of today’s commercial dental laboratories. While the Foundation will have a close relationship to the National Association of Dental Laboratories and National Board of Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology, it is its own entity with the goal of helping to educate dental laboratory professionals. The Foundation will develop education programs that will be relevant and accessible to both dental technicians working in a laboratory setting as well as dental laboratory technology students. The research lab, created by the Foundation in 2012, moved in 2016 into a new 20,000-square-foot, custom-built.
